Crimea was never really Ukrainian. Kruchev added Crimea to Ukraine in the 1950s but Crimeans remained Russians. Rusian speaking Eastern Ukrainians often thought of themselves as Ukrainians until the CIA funded Western Ukrainian neo-nazis started persecuting them in 2014 but Crimeans never thought of themselves as Ukrainian. Ukraine means borderland. Borderland of what. Borderland between Polish controlled Western Ukraine, Russian controlled Eastern Ukraine and Mongol and Tatar controlled South Eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian language is old but the Ukrainian nationality is new. Crimea became part of Russia in the late 1700s at about the same time as the American revolution against the English. Crimea was very happy to rejoin Russia in 2014. Crimea is not Russian occupied but rather a part of Russia that used to be Ukrainian occupied.

Listen, no matter who wins in the US election Russia doesn’t give a toss, they are now economically independent and if there’s anything short of total victory then the Putin government will be in the shite with their electorate. Even if more money and weapons (which for now are short) are pumped into Ukraine they are losing so many fighting age males that they are screwed anyway.

What gets me with the F16s is really... Aircraft aren't useful in modern combat as much as they use to be. If Ukraine was provided with enough anti-air, so that say that each anti-air is protected by another 1 or two anti-air systems Russia wouldn't be able to do much in the air. Then there is the fact that, our Western gear is just heavily technology related and costs way too much. You'd need to train so much more pilots and support teams, and then actually have a large enough wave to really overwhelm the Russians (i.e., drone and missile wave attacks, that will need to occur in a large volume for a few waves before you consider even sending in the planes which are safer to go within a final wave itself. Hope that you get rid of enough air defense to even the playing field.) Aircraft for attacking is better at the start of the conflict to try and get the blows in quickly before establishment as this is when the air defense is at its weakest point, but afterwards should move to keeping distance, surveillance and only used defensively. I feel like they are training the pilots to quickly and are just sending them to an early coffin.

You have no idea what a massive supply of super boots , headsets and night vision would mean for the corruption on the ground level . None of the equipment would make it to the soldiers on the ground . it would be sold on the black market to third parties . Another aspect of that would be , that you are forgetting , who is supposed to benefit from this war - it is a US weapon industry . They don't make boots and headsets , they make F16 s and Himars , so those are the systems which will be supplied . You are forgetting , that this war is about profits of weapon industry , not about Ukrainian victory .

Understandable really, as RU has advanced quite a bit this year, all things considered. But still, I don't really see the offensive getting wider or gaining a lot more ground this year.

As a sign of goodwill the Russians withdrew from much of the territory that they had captured. Boris Johnson flew to Kiev and stopped the deal. On 15 June 2024 the New York Times published extensive extracts from the deal including: "The Guarantor States and Ukraine agree that in the event of aggression, any armed attack on Ukraine or any military operation against Ukraine, each of the Guarantor States, after urgent and immediate consultations between them will provide assistance to Ukraine, as a permanently neutral state under attack ... ". It looks like that after two years of massive losses Ukraine will end up- with a worse deal than it could have had in 2022.

Last I heard from pro Ukrainian sources was they have 20 pilots able to fly F16's so the F16 supply exceeds the amount of people who can pilot them by leaps and bounds. Add to that that all these pilots are poorly trained cause they had to hurry and I can guarantee you that most of them won't survive their first mission.

The Ukrainians ordered helmets from a Polish company. They paid for them but they don't collect them. Why ? There is a strong suspicion that the Poles did not pay a bribe to the contracting company. So they will buy helmets elsewhere.

Ukrainian highways and roads are terrible. Even before 2014 , Ukrainian graft and fraud led to most public works maintenance and repair to be nonexistent. Example: agricultural water pump stations had 80% +- not working at any given moment for farmers to distribute water to their fields.
